Inverter fault finder check list

Before submitting a warranty repair request please take a moment to read through the quick fault-finder check list below to eliminate common problems.

We sometimes receive inverters for repair that have nothing wrong with them due to a point in the check list that has been overlooked. This delays our primary aim which is to get you back up and running as fast as possible.

1. Grid connect Inverters PV Edge Series

Fault finding

Turn the Inverter OFF by switching the DC & external AC Circuit Breakers OFF. Leave OFF for 60 seconds.

Reconnect the DC Solar Input by switching DC breaker ON. All lights on the Inverter should come ON for 1 second at power up and then go OFF. The 75% light should remain ON to indicate the Solar Input is available. Solar Input voltage needs to be above the automatic turn ON voltage, see pg 18, for the light to turn ON. If the light does not illuminate check Solar Input for correct operation.

Next reconnect the AC grid by switching the external AC breaker ON. After 20 seconds the 75% light should begin flashing to indicate Inverter reconnecting to the AC grid. The light will flash for 60 seconds while the PV Edge checks that the mains voltage and frequency are stable. Should the light not begin flashing check if the AC grid is present.

After the 75% light stops flashing the Inverter will begin feeding power into the AC Grid.

2. Stand alone Inverters LS and IRM Series

Fault finding

Turn the Inverter "OFF" via the Circuit Breaker switch on the front panel.

Disconnect all AC wiring from the Inverter.

Disconnect DC Battery leads from Battery. Clean all terminals by removing all grease/corrosion on both DC leads and Battery terminals.

Ensure you have sufficient Battery capacity at the nominal voltage (specified on the compliance label of your Inverter).

Please note: Use minimum 100AH Battery or the size of a substantial Car Battery.

Make connection directly to Battery terminals and ensure all connections are tight.

Remove other wiring from battery to ensure that the Inverter is the ONLY device connected to battery bank.

Ensure Battery voltage is within the correct limits as outlined in the section INVERTER SPECIFICATIONS of this manual. If you do not have a DC voltmeter or multimeter check the front panel for Overvolts and Undervolts LED'S.

Turn the Inverter ON via the Circuit Breaker switch on the front panel. Observe the lights on the front left of your Inverter. Refer to INVERTER OPERATION sections for explanation of Indicator lights.

Plug in various appliances and monitor the Inverters operation.

3. Battery Chargers DC Series

Fault finding

Turn the charger OFF by disconnecting the AC plug and switching the circuit breaker OFF to disconnect from the batteries.

Disconnect all DC battery leads. Clean all terminals by removing all grease/corrosion on both leads and battery terminals.

Reconnect all leads and terminals and ensure all connections are tight.

Remove other wiring from battery to ensure that the Inverter is the ONLY device connected to battery bank.

Turn the charger ON via the AC plug and DC circuit breaker on the front panel. Observe the lights on the front panel for status and mode of operation. Refer to charger operation section for full explanation of indicators.

Note - If battery voltage is below 6V for 12V Charger or below 12V for 24V Charger, this will show as battery fault condition and will not charge.
